Approach S2 Battery is Not Charging Properly

Have you experienced any of these issues with charging your battery?

  • The battery doesn't last a round of golf
  • The battery is taking too long to charge
  • Approach® golf watch won't turn on
  • The display is frozen
  • The Approach watch won't charge at all
  • Flashing Garmin Logo when powering on

Here are the most common solutions for battery issues:

  • There is a system malfunction on the Approach. Reset the software by following these steps.
  • The Approach is not being recognized by the computer.  These instructions will help you force the computer to recognize your Approach. 
  • The charger has been damaged

    • Check that the pins are in good condition and that none are bent or missing.
    • Make sure that there are no pieces missing on the charger that will prevent a tight fit on the Approach® watch.
    • If you find any damage you can buy a replacement here.
  • The Approach® golf device and its charger are not connecting. Plug your charger into another USB port on your computer, or try a different computer. If you have a Garmin USB AC Adapter or one from your smartphone try plugging the charger into the wall. See this article to learn more about recommended charging adapters.
  • The charging contacts have become dirty, watch this video to show you how to clean them.
  • The Approach® golf handheld or wearable needs a software update. Use the Garmin Express™ program to check for software or golf course updates. For installation instructions, you can read the article How to Install Garmin Express for Garmin Approach.

Once the Approach watch begins to charge it should remain connected to power for at least 2 hours.
