Copy the Built-in Map From a Garmin Chartplotter and View in HomePort
Garmin's trip planning software HomePort allows Garmin Marine Chartplotter/Sounder users to copy the built-in maps from their device to a blank SD card and import it to HomePort for viewing on a PC*. The maps can then be used to plan routes, simulate navigating the route, and mark valuable waypoints. The routes and waypoints can then be copied to the SD card and transferred to the device for use.
*HomePort can also be used in conjunction with maps loaded to a PC via a CD or pre-programmed mapping on a proprietary Garmin Data Card or SD Card. Compatible map products are BlueChart, BlueChart g2 BlueChart g2 Vision, LakeVu HD, LakeVu HD Ultra, Upper Midwest Fishing Guide, Garmin Lakes, and Garmin Lakes Vision.
To copy the maps from a pre-loaded chartplotter/sounder, a blank SD card with at least 4GB of free space will need to be used. It is recommended that a blank 4GB SD card be used. To copy the maps to the SD card, please follow these steps:
- Insert the blank SD card into the device while it is powered OFF
- Power ON the device
- Select I Agree when the screen appears
- Choose one of the following:
- Select Nav Info if using an echoMAP 50s/50dv/70s/70dv, GPSMAP 500/700 or GPSMAP 800/1000 series product
- Select User Data if using newer echoMAP 40/50/70/90 series products (excluding the 50s/50dv/70s/70dv):
- Select Info if using GPSMAP 8000 or GPSMAP 7400/7600 series products
- Select Information if using Legacy GPSMAP products
- Select Manage Data
- Select Data Transfer
- Select Copy Built-In Map
- Select Begin Copy
Once the map transfer is complete, insert the SD card into the PC and open the HomePort program. Once HomePort opens, please ensure the correct map is selected in the top left hand corner of the screen, below the Library heading.
To select the maps from the card, please follow these steps:
- Open HomePort
- Click Charts at the top left corner of the screen
- Click the Chart Product
- Click US Marine Detail g2 v*.** (the version will vary depending on what is pre-loaded to the device)
The maps copied from your chartplotter/sounder should now be view-able in HomePort. Please be patient as HomePort loads the maps from the SD card. This process may take time to complete. Removing the card before the map is fully loaded will terminate the process.
