Backing up userdata (waypoints, routes, and tracks) from a GPSMAP 192/198
It is a good idea to backup user data periodically in case anything happens to the device.
To backup user data for a GPSMAP 192/198, you will need the following:
- Blank Garmin Data Card
- Garmin Data Card Programmer
- HomePort
- A computer running a 32-bit version of Windows
To backup the user data from the device to the card, please follow these instructions:
- Insert the Garmin Data Card into the device
- Power ON the device
- Press the Menu button twice to access the Main Menu
- Highlight the Card tab on the left side of the screen
- Press the Right arrow button one time
- Press the Down arrow button four times to highlight the button called Save To Card
- Press the Enter button
- The information is now being backed up to the data card
- Remove the data card from the device
- Insert the data card into the data card programmer that is attached to the PC
- Open the HomePort software
- The USB Data Card Programmer should appear on the left hand side of the HomePort software
- If the USB Data Card Programmer does not appear in HomePort, the drivers for the programmer may need to be updated. For instructions on updating the drivers, please review the FAQ titled "How do I update the USB drivers for the USB Data Card Programmer?"
- If the USB Data Card Programmer does not appear in HomePort, the drivers for the programmer may need to be updated. For instructions on updating the drivers, please review the FAQ titled "How do I update the USB drivers for the USB Data Card Programmer?"
- Right-click on the folder called All Data that appears below the programmer
- Choose Send To
- Choose My Collection
At this point, the data will be saved onto the computer and the data card can be disconnected.
