Garmin Dash Cam Mini Not Recording or Missing Video

Follow the steps below if saved or unsaved footage cannot be found on your Garmin Dash Cam™ Mini, the Garmin Drive™ app, or the device's SD card:

  1. Ensure the device is recording video
  2. Check SD card compatibility
  3. Ensure the device and Garmin Drive app are up to date
  4. Format or replace the SD card

Ensure the Device is Recording Video

  • Make sure that the SD card is inserted all the way into the Garmin Dash Cam Mini. If it is not, the Garmin Drive app will show an error message and the LED at the left and bottom sides of the Dash Cam will flash yellow. It is easiest to use a fingernail to press the SD card into the slot at the side of the unit until a click is heard.
  • The Garmin Dash Cam cannot record video while it is connected to a computer,
  • The Garmin Dash Cam Mini will not record while in the Review Video (Gallery), while in Live Video, or the dash cam has been placed into sharing mode with the Garmin Drive app.
    • Exit the Gallery and end sharing mode in the Drive app. It is not sufficient to switch to a different app. The device will remain in sharing mode unless the Gallery or app is closed.

Live View Review Video

Ensure the Garmin Dash Cam is plugged in and the LED at the bottom of the unit glows a solid red. See Understanding the LED Colors on the Garmin Dash Cam Mini if the LED is blinking and/or shows different colors.

See Indication that a Garmin Dash Cam is Recording Video for more information about how the device records video.

Check SD Card Compatibility

The Garmin Dash Cam may not be able to record footage on incompatible SD cards. See SD Memory Card Compatibility for the Garmin Dash Cam 46, Garmin Dash Cam 56, Garmin Dash Cam 66W, and Garmin Dash Cam Mini.

Ensure the Device and Garmin Drive app are up to Date

The software of your Garmin Dash Cam unit can be updated using either the Garmin Drive app on a smartphone or the Garmin Express™ software on a computer. See below for instructions.

See Garmin Drive App Software Versions and Update Process for steps to update the Garmin Drive app.

Format or Replace the SD Card

The SD card may need to be formatted to record more footage if it contains corrupted data. See Formatting a microSD card on a Garmin Dash Cam Mini.

You may need to replace the card if the Garmin Dash Cam still shows no videos recorded after formatting the card or if the card cannot be formatted. See SD Memory Card Sizes for Automotive Devices for information about recommended card sizes.

Contact Product Support if the Dash Cam Mini continues to fail to record any video.
