When using an inReach subscription plan, there may be times when service for the device is not needed. In these instances, the subscription can be suspended.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Suspend My Subscription Service Plan?

As of June 5th, 2025, all consumer inReach subscription plans have the option of suspending service for up to 12 months with no re-activation fee, except for inReach Annual Contract subscription plans.

What Happens if I Leave My Plan Suspended for 12 Months?

For inReach Freedom plans only, if the yearly anniversary of the activation occurs during suspension, the plan will be automatically migrated into the Enabled plan and will be provided 2 months of Enabled at no cost. For more details, see - inReach Consumer Enabled Plan Explained.

All other consumer inReach subscription plans that are left suspended for 12 months will be automatically canceled at the end of the 12th month. You will receive an email reminder 30 days prior to your subscription being canceled, and again 7 days prior to your subscription being canceled to give you time to make changes to your plan and avoid a re-activation fee.

If your inReach subscription plan has been automatically canceled, the associated inReach device will be removed from your account. The device can then be re-activated on any account by paying an activation fee.

Why Am I Getting a “Plan Change Failed” Error When Trying to Suspend My Freedom Subscription Plan?

If the annual renewal date for your Freedom subscription plan is less than a month away, you may not be able to suspend and could instead receive an error. This is because suspensions do not go into effect until the next upcoming renewal date and Freedom plans are automatically migrated into the closest equivalent new, active plan upon reaching the annual renewal date.

Upon reaching the annual renewal date, there will be no Annual Program Fee and the plan will be automatically migrated into the closest equivalent new, active plan (e.g. Suspend migrates to Enabled, Safety to Essential, Recreation to Standard, and Expedition to Premium). For more details, see - Frequently Asked Questions on inReach Consumer Subscription Plans.

Are There Any Fees During Suspension?

There are no fees for suspending a plan. For inReach Freedom plans, if the yearly anniversary of the activation occurs during suspension, the plan will be automatically migrated into the Enabled plan and will be provided 2 months of Enabled at no cost. For more details, see - inReach Consumer Enabled Plan Explained.
