Joining and Breaking Linear Objects in DeLorme Street Atlas, Topo USA, Topo North America, and XMap

The Select tool of the Draw tab in the DeLorme® Street Atlas, Topo USA, Topo North America, and XMap®1 software programs can be used to join two or more routable roads, tracks, lines, arcs, or spines into a single object. The select tool can also be used to break routable roads, tracks, lines, or splines. Arcs cannot be broken.

To Join a Routable Road, Track, Line, Arc or Spline

Use the following steps to join linear objects.

  1. Center the map over the objects to be joined.

  2. Click the Draw tab.


  3. Click the Select tool.


  4. Drag a box around the objects to be joined.


  5. Right-click the map area, point to Manage Draw, and click Join Lines.


To Break a Routable Road, Track, Line, or Spline

Use the following steps to break linear objects.

  1. Center the map over the objects to break.

  2. Click the Draw tab.


  3. Click the Select tool.


  4. Select the object you want to break. A box displays around the active line and the shape points used to create the line display as small magenta squares.


  5. Click the shape point where the line is to be broken. The shape point will now display as a red circle.


  6. Right-click the red circle, point to Manage Draw, and click Break Line.
