Service Bulletin: NEO Bike Smart Fan Inspection
Garmin has identified two potential issues with Tacx NEO Bike Smart fans:
Fan cables that are routed incorrectly can enter the back of the fan housing and obstruct the fan blades, which can damage and/or break the fan blades. Making contact with damaged or broken fan blades could result in minor injury.
Misaligned fan covers can dislodge from the fan housing, which can damage and/or break the fan blades. Making contact with damaged or broken fan blades could result in minor injury.
WARNING: Keep younger children and pets away from the NEO Bike Smart while inspecting the fan assembly.
Use the following instructions to inspect your NEO Bike Smart fan assembly to identify and address potential issues.
Measuring the Fan Cables
NOTE: Misrouted cables do not extend far enough from the back of the fan assembly. You will need a ruler to measure the fan cables.
Unplug the NEO Bike Smart power cable from the wall outlet.
Unplug the fan cables from the back of the fan assembly.
Gently pull on the fan cables to eliminate slack.
Measure the fan cables including the connector as shown below.
Inspecting the Fan Housing
CAUTION! If there is any separation between the fan covers and the plastic housing or the fan covers are not fully seated, the covers could loosen or separate from the housing during use, which can damage and/or break the fan blades. Making contact with damaged or broken fan blades could result in minor injury.
NOTE: You will need a flashlight to inspect the fan housing.
Unplug the NEO Bike Smart power cable from the wall outlet.
Examine the fan covers for any bulges in the plastic housing.
If there is any separation or bulging, remove the fan cover.
Rotate the fan cover counterclockwise, and pull it off.
Align the four tabs with the notches in the fan cover.
Rotate the cover clockwise until you feel a strong snap.
Verify that the fan cover is locked in place.
Shine your flashlight into each of the four tabs, and verify that each tab is properly aligned as shown below.
Measure the fan cable length again.
Repeat steps 1-9 for the other fan housing.
Removing the Fan Assembly
Unplug the NEO Bike Smart power cable from the wall outlet.
Unplug the fan cables and the display cable.
Use a Torx 20 to remove the bolts (1) on the back of the fan assembly.
