I just purchased the Earthmate app, how do I begin using it?

  • To use the Earthmate app you must first set up an account at inReach.garmin.com. Click on the Earthmate button on the right-hand side of this site to create the only account to use with the app.

    Once account creation is complete download and install the Earthmate app from the Google Play or AppStore and enter the e-mail address and password for the online account to begin using the app.

How many phones or devices can I use the Earthmate app on?

  • The Earthmate app will only work effectively when used on one mobile device at a time. You can load and log into the Earthmate app on more than mobile device when used at different times but attempting to use the app for one https://explore.delorme.com account on two or more devices will lead to issues or complications.

How many waypoints, routes, and track logs can the Earthmate app store and display?

  • There is no defined limit for the amount of waypoints, routes, or track logs the Earthmate can store or display as this number varies based on the model of the mobile device used as well as the amounts of each other data type that is loaded to the website and device.

Mapping and Downloads

I just updated to the new Earthmate app and all of my maps are gone, how do I get them back?

  • The new version of the Earthmate mobile app has been updated with a new map engine and newer, more up-to-date maps. Any maps previously downloaded in the older version of the app are no longer compatible with Earthmate and had to be deleted. What is Digital Atlas of the Earth? How is it different from Topo North America?

  • Digital Atlas of the Earth is a topographic map dataset with data for land areas around the entire world. Topo North America is a more detailed topographic datasets with data for North America only. In regions where both Digital Atlas of the Earth and Topo North America are available the Topo North America dataset will provide a more detailed map.

Am I able to choose where to store the maps I download in the Android Earthmate app?

  • Yes, if you are using Android 4.4 or later there is an option in the Settings of the Android Earthmate app to let you choose to store the maps on external or internal memory. This option is not available in previous versions of Android.

Collecting and Syncing Data

How is information I collect in the app sent to my explore.delorme.com account?

  • Waypoints and track logs collected in the Earthmate app are automatically Synced with your online account at explore.delorme.com every 10 minutes if the mobile device has a data or WiFi connection. 

    Special note for iOS users: The iOS Earthmate can collect log information while running in the background on an iOS device but due to Apple restrictions it cannot Sync data unless it is the active app on the mobile device. To ensure that the information is Synced open the app on the iOS device and leave it on the screen as the active app.

What information gets synced to the Earthmate app from the website? What information gets synced from the Earthmate app to the website?

  • Routes and waypoints created on your online account at explore.delorme.com are transferred down to Earthmate app. Any track logs displayed on the website will not transfer the Earthmate app.

    Waypoints and track logs recorded in the Earthmate transfer to your explore.delorme.com account. Any routes created in the Earthmate app will not be transferred to the website.

What happens if I edit a waypoint in the app at the same time as editing the same waypoint at explore.delorme.com?

  • If a waypoint is edited in both the Earthmate app and the explore.delorme.com page at the same time whichever changes were made last will be reflected in both locations the next time the Earthmate app syncs to the website.

How do I remove track logs from the map of the Earthmate app?

  • There are two ways to prevent the track logs recorded in the Earthmate app from appearing in the map in the app: hiding the information or deleting the information. In both cases all of the track logs in the app with either be hidden or deleted, there is no way to delete only some of the track logs in the app.

    Hiding Track Logs - To hide track logs open the map settings of the Earthmate app in the options. Then tap the selector next to the Show Track option to hide the logs.

    Deleting Track Logs - To delete track logs open the tracking settings of the Earthmate app from the tracking page and tap the Clear option. Be advised that any data that has not been uploaded to explore.delorme.com will be irrevocably lost.

Power and Settings

The battery life of my mobile device has gone down since installing the Earthmate app, why?

  • The Earthmate app does not stop recording a log of your locations unless you actively choose to stop tracking in the app. If tracking is left on the app will continue to use your GPS to record your position even if the app is dismissed to the background of your mobile device. Make sure to stop tracking or completely close the Earthmate app when not in use.
