Changing the Voice Language on an Automotive Device

You can change the voice language or speaker voice on the device to switch between languages or different voices (e.g. American English Michelle or British English). Some voices will be labeled that they "speak street names." Instead of just saying "Turn right in 500 feet," these voices will say "In 500 feet turn right on Main Street."

To Change the Voice Language:

  1. Touch the  wrench icon
  2. Touch Locale
  3. Touch the  lips icon
  4. Select the desired language
  5. Touch OK

Occasionally language files can be updated, although this is optional. These files can generally be updated at the same time as a regular map or software update.

Additionally, devices do not always come preloaded with every voice option. If any voice files are missing or corrupt on an automotive device, they can be reloaded and updated using Garmin Express.

To Reload or Update Voices:

  1. Download and install the Garmin Express application
  2. Connect the device
  3. Click on Tools & Content
  4. Click on the Utilities tab
  5. Scroll down to Optional Updates
  6. Click on Language Files and select the desired language(s)
  7. Scroll down and click Install Now

Once installed, the voice language can be changed on the device.
