Advantages of Suspending an inReach Plan vs. Canceling inReach Service
NOTE: As of June 5th, 2025, all consumer inReach subscription plans have the option of suspending service for up to 12 months with no re-activation fee, except for inReach Annual Contract subscription plans.
For consumer inReach® subscription plan users, there may be times when service for the inReach® satellite communicator is not needed. In these instances, the plan can be suspended or canceled. Suspending the plan will be the more beneficial of these two options in most cases, but there are still advantages for each.
Reasons for Suspending
If the device is only needed during certain times of the year, suspending the plan is a great option. Suspending puts the device in a "stopped" state to avoid recurring monthly charges when it is not in use. Devices can be reactivated easily and generally without incurring additional fees.
When choosing to suspend a plan, there are some important things to consider:
The device will not function on the Iridium Network1 during the suspended period.
All data is maintained during the suspended period. This includes waypoints, routes, tracks, MapShare™ page, messages, and more.
There are no fees for suspending a plan, and a plan can be suspended for up to 12 months.
Plans that are left suspended for 12 months will be automatically canceled at the end of the 12th month. If you wait to re-activate until after the inReach subscription plan has been canceled, you will be assessed another activation fee.
A suspension is not an immediate action and will take place on the plan's upcoming monthly renewal date.

Reasons for Canceling
Canceling your inReach subscription should be reserved for situations where the device is being sold or given away, or if you do not intend to use the device for more than one year. When choosing to cancel a plan, there are some important things to consider:
If you choose to cancel service and then choose to activate again later, you will be assessed another activation fee.
Canceling puts the device in a "deactivated" state where it no longer functions on the Iridium Network1 and any account data will be removed during inactive account maintenance.
