Creating a Custom Tab to Embed MapShare to Facebook Pages
NOTICE: Effective July 1, 2024, the ability to post to Facebook® pages and X (formerly known as Twitter®) from inReach devices is no longer available. Users can still send tracking updates to a LiveTrack™ page from an inReach device, and can send messages as well as tracking updates to a MapShare™ page. You can share your MapShare or LiveTrack link on social media using a computer or mobile device with internet access.
The MapShare™ page is used as a great tool for sharing with friends, family, and followers about your whereabouts.
If you have your own Facebook page, you can embed the MapShare page, as a separate tab within your Facebook Page (see example below).
IMPORTANT: This only works for Pages, not Facebook Groups. Additionally, unless already grandfathered in, Facebook has made changes that only pages with more than 2,000 fans can add 3rd party apps.
This article is provided as a courtesy. Garmin does not support this functionality and will not be able to support due to failure of the app, or changes to Facebook's website.
Ensure that you are logged in to your Facebook account. Ensure that you are logged in to the Admin of the Facebook Page.
Use the following link: https://apps.facebook.com/static_html_plus/ and select Add Static HTML to a Page.
Within the drop down Facebook Pages (1), select the page you want to add the tab to, then select Add Page Tab (2).
The tab will now be visible, next, select Edit Tab.
To edit the name of the Tab, click on the Actions menu and select Edit name and image.
Add the Tab Name in the text field, then select Save tab name (1) and click on the Content tab (2).
Within the index.html box, insert the following code.
Substitute the ‘Share name’ to what you have set found in the MapShare tab of your inReach Account (1)
<iframe src="https://share.garmin.com/ShareName" frameborder="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" width="810" height="810"></iframe>
Once completed, select Save & Publish to save the changes (2).
