Transferring Tracks from an Alpha or Astro Handheld to the Garmin DriveTrack

It is possible to transfer a saved track from an Alpha® or Astro® dog tracking handheld to a Garmin DriveTrack™ navigator. This process is not done wirelessly; there are several steps necessary to save the track on a computer within BaseCamp™ program, convert the track to a route, then transfer the new route to the Garmin DriveTrack where it shows up in the favorited Saved Trips.

  1. Download, Install, and Open the BaseCamp™ program on your compatible Windows or Mac computer (BaseCamp™ software is not Android or iOS compatible)
  2. Plug your Alpha (or Astro) handheld into the computer using the USB data cable provided.
  3. Allow up to fifteen minutes for the BaseCamp™ program to load your device.
    • Once loaded, no loading progress bars will be running in the BaseCamp software's Library.
  4. From the BaseCamp menu, select Device.
  5. Select Receive from Device.
  6. Select the device that the data is coming from, then select OK.
    • Within the My Collection Library, a new folder and list will appear called Data Received from your Handheld on today's date.
    • The saved tracks and waypoints data will automatically be displayed in the list window in the bottom left of BaseCamp™.
  7. Locate the saved track you wish to work with within the list window in the bottom left of BaseCamp™.
  8. Right-Click on the saved track file to reveal a sub-menu, select Create Route from Selected Track.
    • The track conversion options window will open allowing you to enter the number of points for the new route when being converted. (A max number of points that can be used for automotive devices is 125).
    • Click OK.
  9. A new Route file will be created within the list of data.
  10. Safely eject/disconnect the Alpha (or Astro Handheld).
  11. Plug in the DriveTrack to your computer.
    • Allow another up to fifteen minutes for the BaseCamp™ program to load the Garmin DriveTrack.
    • Once loaded, no loading progress bars will be running in the Library.
  12. Right-click the newly created route file within the list of data.
  13. Select Send To....
  14. Select DriveTrack.
  15. Click OK.
  16. Safely eject the DriveTrack from your computer.
  17. Power the DriveTrack On.
  18. From the Home Screen, select Apps > Trip Planner > Saved Trips. The newly created route will show here.
