Transferring User Data Between a Computer and a Garmin Chartplotter
Garmin chartplotters that use micro/SD cards to transfer user data (such as routes, tracks, and waypoints) can read .gpx and .adm file formats. They will not recognize any other formats.
The following Garmin desktop applications can read .gpx and .adm files copied from a chartplotter:
Before downloading any of these applications, check that the chartplotter is compatible with that application.
For steps to receive or send user data in these applications, select an option below:
Importing user data from a chartplotter to a computer
To view user data in any of the applications above:
Insert the micro/SD card into the computer or a connected card reader
In the application, select Transfer
Select Receive from Device
Select OK when the chartplotter is found
The file will now be imported into the application and can be viewed or edited.
Transferring user data from a computer to a micro/SD card to use in a chartplotter
To transfer user data from any of the applications above to a micro/SD card, select an application below for instructions:
BaseCamp™
Insert the micro/SD card into the computer or a connected card reader
In the application, select Transfer
Select Send to Device
Select a list or Selection to send to the device
Select a chartplotter to send the data to
Select OK
The user data will now be written to the micro/SD card as a .adm file.
MapSource
Insert the micro/SD card into the computer or a connected card reader
In the application, select Transfer
Select Send to Device
Select a chartplotter to send the data to
Select the types of data to be sent to the chartplotter
Select Send
Select OK
The user data will now be written to the micro/SD card as a .adm file. See the chartplotter's owner's manual for steps to transfer user data to an SD card.
