GPSMAP 74xx/76xx xsv Chartplotter Compatibility with Bare Wire CHIRP Transducers
CHIRP transducers are capable of scanning through a range of frequencies. Most scan through a single band, typically organized by Low, Medium, and High frequencies. Some CHIRP transducers are capable of scanning through multiple bandwidth ranges, such as Low/Medium, Low/High.
GPSMAP® 74xx/76xx xsv chartplotters and GPSMAP® 84xx/86xx xsv chartplotters are able to utilize CHIRP dual band, but it’s important to account for the type of transducer you intend to connect to it. If using a transducer with a 12-pin connector, it will attach to the orange port on the rear of the unit.
For optimal performance of dual band transducers above 1kW (1000 Watts), a GSD™ 26 Sonar Module is recommended (compatible only with GPSMAP® chartplotter series).
If using a bare wire, CHIRP dual band transducer, it will need to be connected using a 12-pin Sounder Wire Block Adapter. Information on how to wire specific transducer models into this adapter are found in the Installation Manual.
NOTE: CHIRP dual band transducers are not compatible with Garmin 12-pin CHIRP single channel chartplotters unless used with a GSD™ 25 sonar module or a GSD™ 26 sonar module.
