Honda Pilot 2019 and Newer Map Update and/or Purchase Instructions

Honda vehicles with Garmin Navigation come with either 3 (2021 Honda North America vehicles and newer) or 5 years (all other model years and regions) of map updates at no cost.  These map updates are available roughly once per calendar year.  

Starting in 2015, Garmin began providing navigation in select Honda vehicles. We do not provide navigation for all models of Honda vehicles in all countries after 2015. On our website, you may see a Honda vehicle listed that does not use Garmin navigation in your country or region.

Contact your local Honda dealership for additional information on how to update if you are unsure if your vehicle has Garmin navigation.

NOTES BEFORE CONTINUING:

  • Map Care Entitlement period begins approximately once vehicle reaches 200 miles. Depending on age and purchase date of vehicle – the free entitlement period may be ended. 

  • You cannot use the same map download for multiple Honda navigation systems. Doing this will result in a locked navigation device.

  • If a vehicle's Map Care has expired, you will have the option to purchase a onetime update (if available) by following the process below.

The Following is Needed to Perform the Map Update:

  • 16 GB USB Drive Only
    • The Honda Navigation System update requires a 16GB USB flash drive. Using a USB flash drive smaller or larger than 16GB can cause the map update process to be unsuccessful. The following error message may display: "There is not enough space on the device to install the map update from USB storage device."
    • Using the Same USB Flash Drive for the Honda Map Update
  • High-speed Internet connection
  • Up to 4 hours of time (Computer and Vehicle).  The map download time varies based on Internet connection speed and map region.
    • The map installation will take up to one hour in the vehicle but may vary based on the map region being installed.
    • During this update, your Honda navigation system must not be turned off. Therefore, the engine must be running while the vehicle is parked outside or in a well-ventilated area. Before getting started, familiarize yourself with and follow all applicable laws in your area. Please contact your dealer with any questions or concerns.

NOTE: You cannot use the same map download for multiple Honda navigation systems. Doing this will result in a locked navigation device.

Map Update Instructions:

On the Computer

1. Follow the steps in Formatting a USB Drive for a Honda Navigation System

    • NOTE: Steps 1 and 9 (using Garmin Express) must be done within 24 hours of each other when performing the map update. The update process will need to be restarted from the beginning if they are not completed within 24 hours.

2. Take the USB drive to your vehicle

In your Vehicle

The following steps are required in order to imprint a unique ID to the flash drive

3.  With the vehicle turned off, plug the 16 GB USB drive into the vehicle's USB port

    • 2019 and 2020 vehicles - Any USB port in the vehicle can be used. 
    • 2021 and newer vehicles - The USB port in the front console must be used.

4. Turn on the vehicle and Select the Menu Button (3 dots) on the map screen

5. Select Settings

6. Select Map and Vehicle

7. Scroll down and select Map Updates

8. Select Start Update Process

9. Select OK and wait 60 seconds before removing the USB drive from the USB port

10. Remove the USB drive from the USB port in your vehicle and take the USB drive back to your computer

On the Computer

11. Plug the USB drive into your computer

12. Open Garmin Express

13. Select Add a Device

    • If you've previously added your device to Garmin Express, select on your device.
      • The green dot means Garmin Express recognizes the device.

14. Select Add a Device 

15. Select Next

    • If desired, enter your email address to register the device and receive map update notifications.

16. Select Next

    • If desired, enter a nickname for your vehicle

17. Select Install or See Pricing

    • Information about the available update can be found by clicking View Details

Install (Map Care Updates)

1. Select Install

2. Select Accept after reading the terms and conditions

3. Select Continue after reading the important notes

    • Garmin Express will now display Preparing Device for Map Update and then Garmin Express is copying the map update files on to the USB drive

See Pricing (Map Purchase Updates)

1. Click See Pricing

2. Select your country from the drop-down list

3. Click Continue

4. Click Sign In

5. Enter your email address and password

6. Click Sign In

7. Click the price button of the update you want to purchase

 

8. Verify and/or enter the Shipping Address and click Continue

9. Review/Verify and click Continue

    • Taxes and total vary by state/country.

 

10. Click Continue to Payment

11. Enter Credit Card information and click Place Secure Order

12. Order Complete! processing page will display

13. Click Install Now

    • If Install Later is selected, Click the back arrow in Garmin Express to see the Activate Maps option.

14. Click Accept

15. Click Continue

16. Downloading Maps progress bar displays

17. Click OK

18. Safely remove the USB drive from the computer once the update process is completed and take the USB drive back to your vehicle

In your Vehicle

19. Turn on the vehicle

    • The engine must be running while the vehicle is parked outside or in a well-ventilated area. Before getting started, familiarize yourself with and follow all applicable laws in your area.

20. Plug the USB drive into the same USB port used earlier in your vehicle

21. Select the Menu Button (3 dots) on the map screen

22. Select Settings

23. Select Map and Vehicle

24. Scroll down and select Map Updates

25. Select Start Update Process

26. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the map update

To Verify the Maps Were Successfully Installed:

In your Vehicle

1. Select the Menu button (3 dots) on the map screen

2. Select Settings

3. Select Map and Vehicle

4. Select myMaps

myMaps Honda

The map region and version will display on the screen.
