Adding Custom POIs to a Kenwood Device
Points of Interest (POIs) are already included in the maps on your Kenwood device, but additional POIs can also be installed using a program called POI Loader. You may install custom POIs you have made or collections you have downloaded from a website or received from another user.
To use custom POIs with a Kenwood device, you will need either an SD Card or USB Flash Drive. To find out which media to use, consult your owner's manual.
To load custom POIs to your Kenwood device you will first need to prepare and load the files to the SD Card or USB Flash Drive.
To prepare and load the files:
Windows
To prepare the blank SD Card or USB Flash Drive:
1. Insert blank SD Card or USB Flash Drive into your computer
2. Open the blank SD card or USB Flash Drive on your computer
3. Create a folder and name it Garmin on the blank SD card or USB Flash Drive
4. Double-click the Garmin folder to open it
5. Create a second folder within the Garmin folder and name it POI
After preparing the SD card or USB Flash Drive, you'll need to use Garmin POI Loader to load the custom POIs to the SD card or USB Flash Drive. If you do not have Garmin POI loader yet, you may download and install it from null.
To load the files using Garmin POI loader:
1. Open Garmin POI Loader
2. Click Next
3. Click Computer as your Save Option
4. Click Next
5. Click Browse and select the location of the newly created POI folder from the above steps
6. Click Next
7. Click Browse to locate and select the folder that contains your custom POI file
8. Name the newly created custom POI file "POI"
9. Leave the other two options at their default settings
10. Click Next
11. Click Finish
12. Safely eject the SD Card or USB Flash Drive from your computer before disconnecting it
After loading the custom POI files to the SD Card or USB Flash Drive, they will need to be added to the Kenwood Device.
Mac
To prepare the SD card or USB drive:
1. Insert the SD card or USB Flash Drive into your computer
2. Open the SD Card or USB Flash Drive on your computer
3. Create a folder and name it Garmin on the SD card or USB Flash Drive
4. Open the Garmin folder
5. Create a second folder within the Garmin folder and name it POI

To load the files using Garmin POI loader:
1. Open Garmin POI Loader
2. Select Load new custom POIs onto your device or computer
3. Click Continue
4. Click Browse to locate and select the folder that contains your custom POI file
5. Click Continue
6. Click Save to Computer as your storage location from the drop-down menu
7. Name the newly created custom POI file "POI"
8. Click Continue
9. Select the location of the newly created POI folder on the SD card or USB Flash Drive
10. Click Open
11. Click Continue
12. Click Done
13. Safely eject the SD card or USB Flash Drive from your computer before disconnecting it
After loading the custom POI files to the SD card or USB Flash Drive, they will need to be added to the Kenwood Device.
To add the custom POI files to the Kenwood device:
1. Ensure that the Kenwood device is on one of the navigation screens
2. Insert the SD card or USB flash drive into the Kenwood device
3. Follow the onscreen prompts to copy the POIs to the Kenwood device
The custom POIs will now be installed to the Kenwood device.
To view the custom POI files:
1. Touch Where To?
2. Touch Categories
- Touch Extras on some devices
3. Select one of the custom POI categories
The device will now display the custom POIs in order of proximity.
