Updating the Software on Your inReach Mini 2

Software for your inReach® Mini 2 handheld should be kept up-to-date in order to take advantage of improvements and bug fixes. Updates are free and easy to install. To update the software on your inReach Mini 2 handheld, use the Garmin Explore™ app or Garmin Express™ program.

Garmin Explore App

The Garmin Explore app will only download software updates automatically behind the scenes while your inReach Mini 2 handheld is connected to your mobile phone with a data connection. There are no steps required to obtain the latest software, the update may take up to 45 minutes with a continuous connection. Once an update has been sent to the inReach Mini 2 handheld, it will prompt the user to install the update. If No is selected to install the update on the inReach Mini 2 handheld, it can be installed later.

Installing the Update Later

If No was selected on the inReach Mini 2 handheld when prompted to install the software update sent from the Garmin Explore app, the update needs to be installed later.
  1. From the home page, press OK to open the main menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select System.
  4. Select Software Update.
  5. Select Yes to install the software update.

Garmin Express Software

The Garmin Express program provides the ability to check and offer software updates automatically each time you connect your inReach Mini 2 handheld to the computer. Garmin Express software requires the use of a Windows or Mac computer and cannot be utilized on a smartphone or tablet. Updating the inReach Mini 2 Software Through Garmin Express

If this is your first time using a computer with your inReach Mini 2 handheld, you will need to download and install the Garmin Express program.

    1. Connect your inReach Mini 2 handheld to your computer with the USB charging cable.
    2. Launch Garmin Express program.
    3. Select your inReach Mini 2.
    4. Garmin Express will then display the available updates. Select Install or Install All.
      • Review and accept any prompts for Terms and Conditions or Important Notes.
    5. Once complete, disconnect your inReach Mini 2 handheld from the computer.
