Garmin Express Displays a Server Error Message

Description

If Garmin Express displays one of the following errors, there may be an issue with your internet connection or your computer's settings.

  • "We are unable to add this device because our servers are unavailable at this time."
  • "Sorry, we're having a problem communicating with our servers."

Resolution

  1. Ensure that Garmin Express is up to date

  2. Ensure the Internet connection meets the system requirements for Garmin Express

  3. Reset the network hardware
    • Shut down the computer and reset the network hardware by unplugging the router and/or modem
    • After a minute, plug the router and/or modem back in to restart it and turn the computer back on and try using Garmin Express again
  4. Check the Date and Time Settings on the computer

  5. Temporarily disable Internet Security/Firewall

    • Although most security software will not interfere with Garmin Express, some security software (such as software that is used on work computers or in a business environment) may cause this error

    • If possible, try temporarily disabling the software

      • If you cannot disable it, it will be necessary to use a different computer

    • If disabling fails to resolve the issue, you can set up an exception for Garmin Express
  6. Check the proxy settings on the computer

  7. Disable Virtual Private Network
    • If applicable, disable any VPN (Virtual Private Network) that is in use. If this is not possible, use a different computer and/or network connection.
  8. Uninstall Garmin Express

  9. Restart the computer

    • null

  10. Reinstall Garmin Express

Garmin Express should now be able to connect to the server. If not, try a different computer or a different internet connection.
