Varia App: Pairing Tips and Troubleshooting a Varia

For help connecting and troubleshooting a Bluetooth® compatible Varia™ rearview radar or headlight to the Varia™ app, review the content below.

Steps to Pair With the Varia App

  1. From the Varia app select Add Device.

    • If a device is already paired to the app, select three blue dots stacked vertically > Devices > Add Device.

  2. Ensure the Varia is in pairing mode by holding the device key for 2 seconds until the LED flashes purple.

  3. Select That's Mine or That's Not Mine to see other nearby available radars.

  4. Observe the green connected icon at the top of the app to confirm the Varia is connected and ready to use. .

Your Varia is now paired and will be listed under the Devices section of the Varia App. Approaching cars will be shown within the long vertical column in the center of the screen.


Troubleshoot Pairing With the Varia App

  • Ensure that you have charged up your Varia.

  • Make sure the Varia is turned on and in pairing mode. A flashing LED will indicate pairing mode.

    • Varia™ RVR315 radars features a status LED on the side close to the GARMIN logo. Press and hold the power button at the top for 2 seconds to put the radar into pairing mode. The LED will flash blue.

    • Varia™ RTL515 radars features a status LED towards the bottom next to the GARMIN logo. Press and hold the power button at the top for 2 seconds to put the radar into pairing mode. The LED will flash purple.

      NOTE: If only pairing to the Varia App, the RTL515 will power on in pairing mode (purple flashes) and remain in pairing mode for 5 minutes.

    • Varia™ RCT715 radars features a status LED directly below the elongated device button. Press and hold the device button for 2 seconds to put the radar into pairing mode. The LED will flash purple.

    • Varia™ Vue features a status LED next to the elongated device button. Press and hold the device button for 2 seconds to put the headlight into pairing mode. The LED will flash purple.

  • Hold the Varia close to the phone while attempting to pair.

  • Move away from other electronics while attempting to pair.

  • Try rebooting your phone.

  • Hold down the power button on the Varia for 10 seconds. This will reset the device.

    • On the RCT715 or Vue, hold down both buttons for 10 seconds to reset the device.


Setting a Primary Device in the Varia App

When multiple headlights or rear radars are paired to the Varia app, one will need to be set as the primary device. If a radar or headlight is not set as the primary device, it will not connect to the app even if it is listed in the Devices menu. If your headlight or taillight is not connecting to the app, you may need to set it as the primary device. To change the primary device:

  1. In the Varia app, select three blue dots stacked vertically (top right).

  2. Select Devices.

  3. Select the device you would like to make the primary device.

  4. Enable the Primary Device option.

Can I Pair My Radar With the Varia App and My Garmin Device?

Varia radars can be paired with the app and a compatible Garmin device simultaneously. Alerts will then display on both the app and Garmin device.
