How to Customize the Light Network Settings

Your light can be controlled from a paired Edge® cycling computer. View device specific instructions below to customize Light Network settings from your device. See Varia Headlight and Radar Setting Availability and Details  for a complete explanation of how lights function depending on the Light Network setting. The following Edge cycling computers allow you to customize the light network settings.

NOTE: After your light has been paired to an Edge device, you can control the light modes through the Edge device itself. It is not necessary to press the physical button on the Varia device to change the light mode.

Edge 130 | Edge 130 Plus

The Edge 130 and 130 Plus models do not have "Network Options" or the "Light Beam Activated" setting. To change the Light Mode, see below:

  1. Press and hold the upper-right Three horizontal lines stacked on top of each other button.

  2. Select Sensors.

  3. Select Lights.

  4. Select Configuration.

  1. Select Three white lines Edge Menu button > Sensors.

  2. Select Lights. If currently connected, you will see the battery icon showing the charge status like in the image below on the right.

How to Control the Light During an Activity

NOTE: Changing light mode to OFF does not disable the camera or radar. The following Edge cycling computers will not have a dedicated Light Mode widget or Light Network data screen to adjust light settings during a ride.

  • Edge 520, Edge 520 Plus, and Edge 530: Go to Menu > Settings > Sensors. Press the enter button (top right), then select Light Network.

  • Edge 130 and Edge 130 Plus: Press and hold the top-right menu button then select Main Menu > Sensors > Lights.

  • Edge 510 and Edge 810: Tap the screen, then select Wrench and Screwdriver icon > Radar or Bike Lights.

Light Mode Widget

Newer Edge devices have a dedicated Light Mode widget that is available when lights are connected which allows you to temporarily change the Light Mode during a ride. These models include the following.

  • Edge 540 | Edge 540 Solar

  • Edge 830

  • Edge 840 | Edge 840 Solar

  • Edge 1030 | Edge 1030 Plus

  • Edge 1040 | Edge 1040 Solar

  • Edge 1050

  • Edge Explore | Edge Explore 2

To access the widget: 

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Widget Menu.
    For Edge 540, scroll up from the home page.

  2. Scroll to the left or right until you reach the Light Mode widget.
    For Edge 540, scroll up and down to reach the Light Mode widget.

  3. To override the light mode, select Solid, Flash, Off, or Peloton.

  4. Select Cancel Override to return to your light being controlled by the Light Network settings on your Edge. You must cancel override selections for your light to respond to the Light Beam Activated setting you programmed earlier (ex: light beams turn on/off if Edge is powered on/off or an activity is started or ended).

All Other Touchscreen Edge Devices

Touchscreen Edges not mentioned above, except for the Edge 510 and Edge 810 (see note above ), have a Light Network data screen. To enable this data screen, refer to your Owner's Manual. Once the data screen has been enabled you can swipe left or right while recording an activity to scroll over to the Light Network data screen:

Varia Vue Headlight Camera

Beam Activated Setting

Allows you to change how the beam is controlled and is changed in the following menu.

  1. Open the settings menu

  2. Select Sensors

  3. Select Lights

  4. Select Network Options

  5. Select Light Beam Activate

The following options will be available:

  • Timer Start: Edge activates and operates lights in configured mode when you start an activity (lights are off until then).

  • Device Power Up: Edge activates and operates lights in configured mode once light network is formed (when Edge is powered on).

Light Network Configuration

Allows you to adjust the mode the lights will function under and can be adjusted in the following menu.

  1. Open the settings menu

  2. Select Sensors

  3. Select Lights

  4. Select Network Options

  5. Select Light Mode

The following options will be available and have the function of them listed below:

  • Auto: Auto- adjusts light intensity based on the ambient light or time of day.

    • Day/Fog - OFF

    • Dawn/Dusk - Solid (Medium)

    • Night - Solid (High)

  • High Visibility: Sets the light intensity to flash mode or the brightest setting available.

    • Day/Fog/Dawn/Dusk – Day Flash

    • Night – Night Flash

  • Trail: Automatically adjusts the light intensity and light mode based on the ambient light and time of day. This mode is recommended for mountain biking.

    • Day/Fog - OFF

    • Dawn/Dusk - Solid (Medium)

    • Night - Solid (High)

  • Individual: You can customize light intensity and pattern mode for each light in your network. When enabled, you can adjust light intensity and pattern modes for individual lights by accessing Settings > Sensors > Lights > select a paired light > Light Mode. 

    • High - 550 lumens (solid light)

    • Medium - 300 Lumens (solid light)

    • Low - 140 lumens (solid light)

    • Day Flash - 600 lumens (strobing flash)

    • Night Flash - 140 to 400 lumens (pulsing flash)

    • OFF - No light
