"Auto-guidance unable to calculate route" Error Message When Trying to Use the Auto-Guidance Feature of a BlueChart g2 Vision HD Card
Some Garmin Marine Chartplotters/Sounders used in conjunction with a BlueChart g2 Vision/HD or LakeVu HD Ultra card have a feature called Auto Guidance. This feature is designed to provide the chartplotter/sounder with the ability to determine the best path to take to get to a destination while avoiding land and various obstacles.
There are a few settings that can be changed that affect the Auto Guidance feature. The Auto Guidance feature will use Safe Depth, Safe Height, and Shoreline Distance information to create a route to the destination. If there is not a safe path to the destination that will avoid these dangerous areas, the device will display the message, "Auto-guidance unable to calculate route."
To change the Auto Guidance settings, please follow these instructions:
- Press the Home button
- Choose Configure or Settings
- Choose Preferences
- Choose Navigation
- Choose Auto Guidance
The BlueChart g2 Vision/HD and LakeVu HD Ultra cards do have one restriction when it comes to the Auto Guidance feature. By default, the lowest Safe Depth will be set to 3 feet. This is the lowest the Safe Depth can be used for the Auto Guidance. Even if the Safe Depth setting is set to 1 or 2 feet in the Preferences menu, the BlueChart g2 Vision/HD or LakeVu HD Ultra card will only use depths 3 feet or more for its calculations.
NOTE: Any BlueChart g2 Vision/HD card manufactured in 2007 will have a restriction of 6 feet as the lowest Safe Depth. Any card manufactured after 2007 will use the 3 foot restriction.
