External power options for wireless updates
Your automotive device must be connected to an external power source when performing wireless updates.
The two external power options recommended for this purpose are:
- AC wall charger1
- Computer USB connection2,3

1AC chargers are an optional accessory and are not included with Garmin automotive devices. For information about which AC chargers can be used with your device, see Related Content.
2When plugged into a computer via USB connection, the device will state "USB connection detected. Do you want to enter file transfer mode?" Touching No will allow the device to remain functional and use the computer as an external power source to perform the updates over Wi-Fi.
3The device may display the message "The attached cable cannot currently charge your device" when using this method. In this case, the power will be used to keep the device powered on so that updates can be completed successfully, but the battery level may not increase while connected to the computer.
