How Do I Know if My inReach Message Has Sent?

Under ideal conditions, inReach® messages can be sent within 30 seconds to a minute, but may take up to 5 minutes depending on your surroundings. In certain situations, it could take longer. For more details, see - null.

There are a couple of ways to tell when a message has successfully sent.

Alert Tones

By default, the handheld will emit a short beeping or ringing tone once a message has been sent. This setting can typically be adjusted from Settings > Sounds
or Setup > Tones. For more detailed instructions, refer to your owner's manual.

Status Icons

While the message is still sending, one of the following icons will be displayed next to it in the message history on the handheld:

Curved Up Arrow

Rotating Dots Loading Symbol

Once the message has been sent, the icon will no longer be displayed next to the message.

What Should I Do if Messages Are Not Sending?

If messages are not sending, there are a few things to check:

  • Ensure your inReach device is outside with a clear view of the sky.

The signal transmitted by the inReach device may be too weak to reach the satellites through windows, so if you cannot connect to the satellites indoors or in a vehicle, then you will need to take the inReach outside. For optimal sky view and transmission, try keeping the inReach device secured high on the body or backpack.

  • Ensure your inReach subscription is active.

For steps, see - Testing inReach Service to Verify Active Subscription.

  • Allow enough time for messages to send.

For more details, see - null.

  • When sending messages with a compatible Garmin® app, ensure your Garmin device is powered on and connected in the app.

For troubleshooting Bluetooth connection issues, refer to the appropriate FAQ for the app you are using:

  • Sync your inReach device. For instructions, refer to the appropriate FAQ for the device you are using:
