Data Loaded to an SD Card an Automotive Device will Recognize

Garmin automotive devices will read a variety of data from an SD card. The recognized data types are listed below: 

  • Garmin map image files loaded to the card from Garmin Express, Garmin BaseCamp, or through Garmin's downloadable web content
  • User-created routes for devices supporting multiple-point routing1,2
    • These files do not require you to keep the memory card installed in the device once imported
    • Files will be imported to the internal storage
  • Waypoints1 and custom Points of Interest (POI) files
    • These files do not require you to keep the memory card installed in the device once imported
    • Files will be imported to the internal storage

GPX files must be located in a "GPX" folder within a "Garmin" folder on the SD card. You can create these folders manually when the SD card is connected to your computer.
