Battery Charging Issues Alpha 100 or Montana Series

If the Lithium-ion battery* for the Alpha 100 or Montana series device is not charging at all or fails to charge completely, please follow these instructions:

  1. Make sure the software is up to date with Garmin Express (see related content for additional instructions)
  2. Connect device to AC charger
  3. Leave the device connected to charge for 3+ hours

Note: Use the AC charging cable that came with the device to ensure a proper charge.

If the device charges but does not charge all the way to 100% try 3 separate 3 hour charge cycles.

If the device still does not show any charge or adjustment from the initial level of charge when connected, the battery or the charging cable may need to be replaced.

To determine which may need to be replaced:

  1. Connect the device to a computer that is powered on
  2. Leave connected for 1+ hour

Note: Use the USB cable that came with the device to ensure a proper charge.

If the device begins to take a charge when connected to the computer, the AC charging cable needs to be replaced. If it still fails to take any charge, the battery will need to be replaced.

You can purchase a replacement battery here, or a replacement charging cable here.

If the device is less than 12 months old, please contact product support.

If the device will still not charge and a replacement battery does not resolve problem the device may need to be exchanged. Review FAQ Garmin Warranty Policy and Repair Process to setup an online RMA through our Repair Center.

*Charging instructions only apply for the Lithium-ion Battery Pack that comes with the devicenot to other rechargeable batteries that may be used.
