Garmin Dash Cam Tandem Not Recording or Missing Video

Follow the steps below if saved or unsaved footage cannot be found on your Garmin Dash Cam Tandem, the Garmin Drive app, or the device's SD card:

  1. Ensure the device is recording video
  2. Check SD card compatibility
  3. Ensure the device and Garmin Drive app are up to date
  4. Format or replace the SD card

Ensure the Device is Recording Video

Make sure the SD card is inserted all the way into the Garmin Dash Cam Tandem. If it is not, the Garmin Drive app will show an error message and the LEDs will flash yellow. It is easiest to use a fingernail to press the SD card into the slot at the side of the unit until a click is heard.

Ensure the Garmin Dash Cam Tandem is plugged in and the LED on the Save button glows a solid red. See null if the LED is blinking and/or shows different colors.

The Garmin Dash Cam Tandem cannot record video when connected to a computer or while the device has been placed into sharing mode with the Garmin Drive app, indicated by a blue LED. Touch Back to exit the gallery and end sharing mode in the Drive app on your phone.

    • Note: The Dash Cam device will start recording again if the app is closed. It may be necessary to disconnect the phone from the camera network through the phone's wi-fi settings. Refer to your phone's owners' manual for instructions.

See Indication that a Garmin Dash Cam is Recording Video for more information about how the device records video.

Check SD Card Compatibility

The Garmin Dash Cam Tandem may not be able to record footage on incompatible SD cards. See SD Memory Card Compatibility for the Garmin Dash Cam 46, Garmin Dash Cam 56, Garmin Dash Cam 66W, Garmin Dash Cam Mini, and Garmin Dash Cam Tandem.

Ensure the Device and Garmin Drive app are Up-to-Date

The software of your Garmin Dash Cam Tandem can be updated using either the Garmin Drive app on a smartphone or Garmin Express on a computer. See below for instructions:

See null for steps to update the Drive app.

Format or Replace the SD Card

The SD card may need to be formatted to record more footage if it contains corrupted data. See Formatting the Memory Card for instructions.

You may need to replace the card if the Garmin Dash Cam Tandem still shows no videos recorded after formatting the card or if the card cannot be formatted. See SD Memory Card Sizes for Automotive Devices for information about recommended card sizes.

Contact Product Support if the Dash Cam Tandem continues to fail to record any video.
