Connecting a FLIR camera to my GPSMAP 74xx/76xx/8xxx series device
With the 4.00 software update to the GPSMAP 74xx/76xx/8xxx series, support was added for M-series and MD-series FLIR cameras.
Garmin currently supports the original M-series and MD-series cameras, which include the following models:
- M-324XP
- M-324L
- M-612L
- M-618CS
- M-625L
- M-625XP
- MD-324
- MD-625
In order to connect FLIR cameras to GPSMAP 74xx/76xx/8xxx series devices, a Marine Network Cable PoE Isolation Coupler must be installed. The coupler provides connectivity to the Garmin Marine Network and without it, the network will not function correctly and damage may occur to your Garmin device and/or FLIR camera.
To connect the M-series camera to the GPSMAP 74xx/76xx/8xxx series device:
- Connect an RJ-45 ethernet cable from the FLIR camera to the Garmin PoE Isolation Coupler
- Connect a Garmin Marine Network cable from the Garmin PoE coupler to Garmin device
- Connect a video cable from the FLIR camera to composite video input connection on the Garmin device
To connect the MD-series camera to the GPSMAP 74xx/76xx/8xxx series device:
- Connect an RJ-45 ethernet cable from the FLIR camera to the FLIR PoE Injector1
- Connect an RJ-45 ethernet cable from the FLIR PoE Injector to Garmin PoE Isolation Coupler2
- Connect a Garmin Marine Network cable from the Garmin PoE Isolation Coupler to the Garmin device
- Connect a video cable from the FLIR camera to the composite video input connection on the Garmin device
Note that any time a FLIR Joystick (JCU) is utilized in an M or MD series install, a GMS 10 should be used for connecting the JCU to the Garmin display. A Garmin PoE Isolation Coupler should be installed between the camera and the GMS 10, and a FLIR PoE Injector needs to be installed between the camera and the Isolation Coupler.
If needed, detailed diagrams for connecting compatible FLIR cameras to Garmin displays are available on the FLIR website.
