Using Loc8 Codes on Compatible Automotive Devices

Loc8 Codes are a variation of postal codes used in the Republic of Ireland. Instead of covering a general area like postal codes do, Loc8 Codes reference a specific point, much like geographic coordinates. If you plan to travel to Ireland and have the appropriate map installed 1, you may order the Loc8 Codes download free of charge on our website, then use Garmin Express to add them to your device.

To Download Loc8 Codes to Your Device With Garmin Express:

  1. Connect the device to a computer with a USB cable

  2. Open Garmin Express

  3. Select your device

    • If you have not yet added your device to Garmin Express, click Add a Device and follow the steps on the screen

  4. Click Tools & Content

  5. Click the Purchased tab

  6. Click Sign In to sign in to your Garmin account

  7. Loc8 Codes should be displayed here with the message Ready to Activate. Click the  download icon.

  8. Sign in to your Garmin account again

  9. Click Continue

The installation of the Loc8 Codes should now be complete.

When using Loc8 Codes, you must set your device to a European locale (if it is not already) by performing a system restore. Please note that this will reset all user settings on your device to factory default including your saved and recently found places. You can back up this information by following the steps in this FAQ: Backing up, Restoring, or Transferring Saved Data on Garmin Automotive Devices.

To Change the Locale on Your Device:

  1. Touch Settings

  2. Touch Personal

  3. Touch Device Reset

  4. Touch Erase all data (factory reset)

  5. Touch OK

  6. Touch Reset Device

  7. Touch Reset Device again

  8. Select any European locale (e.g. United Kingdom, Ireland, etc.)

  9. Touch OK

After downloading Loc8 Codes for a compatible device, you can look them up by doing a basic address search.

To Search for a Loc8 Code:

  1. Touch Where To?

  2. Touch Address

  3. Touch Enter Postal Code

    • Enter the desired Loc8 Code and touch Done. These can be provided by business or individuals; they may also be looked up at http://www.myloc8ion.com/

  4. Touch Go

The device will route you to the designated location, provided you have detailed mapping for Ireland.
