Connecting the NMEA Output of the Class B Transponder with the AISWatchMate 670 While Using the Computer Output Function
Can the Class B transponder connect the AISWatchMate 670 Display-Only to the NMEA output of the transponder and use the computer output from the transponder at the same time?
Suppose the transponder has a cable with the computer serial output connector (a 9-pin connector called a DB9). In that case, it can plug directly into a serial port on the computer or use a USB-to-serial adapter. Then use the NMEA output from the transponder (review the transponder manual). Select which port is used on the AISWatchMate and connect the orange wire to the data input for that port. Connect the black wire from the transponder to the signal ground for the same port.
When connected this way, the data from the transponder sends in parallel to both the computer and the AISWatchMate 670.
