FLUX Series Smart Trainer Features

Below are details regarding the features of the FLUX series Smart trainers that will have influence on your indoor cycling experience.

Flywheel

The flywheel of your trainer is what creates the smooth ride feel and swift responsiveness which are both key in replicating the experience of your outdoor rides. The large flywheel on the FLUX series ensure the same sensation of riding on the road. Between the FLUX trainers there is a difference in flywheel weight:

  • FLUX S - 15.5 lbs (7 kg)

  • FLUX 2 - 16.75 lbs (7.6 kg)


Workout Types

There are a couple of different workout types which could be selected for your training sessions. All bike trainers behave or respond different to these workout types. This section is written to help you understand what the differences are and what to expect. The following workout types are of importance:

  • ERG Mode

  • Movie, GPS, or Custom Workouts

ERG Mode

The ERG mode setting is a tool to control your power output on the basis of your cadence. During a power based training the resistance unit tries to hold the desired power or resistance level set by the application being used. The power output created by the cyclist is measured and the resistance unit will adjust to match the desired power level. The time to change between power levels is influenced by the strength of the resistance unit, weight of the flywheel and changes in speed or cadence. With a heavy flywheel the resistance unit requires to be very powerful in order to respond quickly to changes in speed or cadence.

Movie, GPS, or Custom Workouts

  • Movie: Explore the world with a large collection of training films, including everything from famous spring classics to the Alps. New movies are released on a regular basis.

  • GPS: Get a birds-eye view when choosing a GPS route.

  • Custom: Structure your own workouts based on target slope, power or FTP.

NOTE: All Tacx bike trainers are spec'd with a maximum incline value. This value is calculated with a body weight of 143 lbs (65 kg) in reference to the "strength" of the resistance unit when cycling 6 mph (10 km/h). It is important to understand that when your body weight is higher, the maximum incline the trainer is able to simulate will be lower.
