'Route Memory Full' Message on an Automotive Device

After a destination has been entered on an automotive device, it may sometimes display the message "Route Memory Full" or "Route Calculation Error: Not Enough Memory Available."

Why is This Happening?

Each turn in a route is stored in the device's memory.  Once the memory of the device is full, it can no longer continue calculating and will display one of the above error messages.

These messages appear when the device has reached its maximum available memory for the route that is being calculated.  For example, if you are entering a cross-country trip, create a route for each day of travel instead of plotting in one long, continuous route.  Adding an SD card to the device will not correct either of these errors.

To best resolve, this issue, break the route into two or more smaller routes.

If the route is already fairly short and the device should have sufficient memory to calculate it in its entirety, these messages may appear due to out-of-date software. To correct this, ensure the software is up to date. Go to the Support Center and enter the product name or the serial number of your device. Once your device is selected, click on the Software tab in the left hand panel under your device name.

Deleting Archive Files

If the message persists after a software update, you may need to delete archive files from the internal storage of your device.

Devices that record a trip log will archive these tracks or trip logs in the internal storage of the device. If you travel across great distances, these files can end up being quite large. To delete the archive files in your device's internal storage you would need to connect your device to a computer.

NOTE: Clearing any trip logs on the device itself will not delete the archived trip logs in the device's internal storage.

To Delete Archived Trip Log Files:

NOTE: If using one of the following devices, it will be easiest to do this on a Windows computer. See if you don't have access to a Windows computer.
