What is Garmin's Wheelchair Mode?

Enabling wheelchair mode allows the watch to record different metrics, such as pushes instead of steps. You can turn it on or off in your User Profile settings either directly on the watch, or through your Garmin Connect™ account. Wheelchair mode is available for the following watches:

  • Venu® 3

  • Venu® 3S

  • vívoactive® 5

  • vívoactive® 6

The first time you enable wheelchair mode on your watch, you can select your exercise frequency in order to set your activity level to the correct algorithm. It updates your glances, apps, and available activities and challenges. For example, wheelchair mode has indoor and outdoor push and handcycling activities, such as Push-Run Speed and Push-Walk Speed, instead of running and walking activities. While wheelchair mode is turned on, you must pair a cadence sensor for all activities. For indoor activities, you will be prompted to pair a speed sensor for speed data. For information about specific compatibility, purchasing, or to view the owner's manual, go to the Garmin website for that sensor.

NOTE: VO2 Max estimate and incident detection are both disabled while in wheelchair mode.
