Acquiring Satellites on the eTrex Summit
Before you can actually use your eTrex Summit® outdoor handheld for navigation, you must first obtain a fix on your current position.
- Take your eTrex handheld to an area with a clear view of the sky.
- Press and hold POWER to turn the unit on.
- Allow about a minute for the eTrex handheld to get a location fix (initialization) using satellites overhead.
- A "WAIT... LOCATING SATELLITES" message appears on the SkyView page, followed by a "READY TO NAVIGATE" message when a location fix has been attained.
