Forerunner 405/405CX/410: Troubleshooting Slow Satellite Aquisition

In some cases, the Forerunner 405, 405CX, or 410 may not lock onto satellites. This can be due to corrupted satellite information. Performing an AutoLocate will clear previous GPS data and allow the device to lock onto its current position.

You may also need to perform an AutoLocate in the following circumstances:

  • The device has not been used in over two weeks.

  • The device is powered on in a location that is 50 or more miles from where it is normally used.

  • The distance or speed data appears to be inaccurate as a result of a corrupt satellite signal.

To perform an AutoLocate:

  1. Select GPS on bezel.

  2. Select Satellites.

  3. Press and hold Lap/Reset.

  4. Wait to hear a reset tone.

  5. Release Lap/Reset.

  6. Take device outside with an unobstructed view of the sky.

The device may take 5-10 minutes to acquire a signal depending on the amount of sky it can see at once. Once the bars on the Satellite page have disappeared, the AutoLocate is completed. The bars will reappear as the Forerunner locks onto its location.

If the acquisition issue persists, it may be necessary to reset the device. Refer to the Owner's Manual for information on how to do so.
