1 These watches will automatically review the Garmin community track-run database to compare the lane starting and end points. If you show up to a track that has already been registered in our community database, your watch should lock-in right away. If it is not in our database, the watch will calculate the lane after approximately 4 laps.
Tips for Using Track Run
The following are suggestions for effective use of the Track Run profile:
Use this profile on 400 meter tracks of standard shapes. Track Run is not designed to track activities on tracks with a non-standard shape. Track Run expects a track with two parallel straightaways and two semi-circular turns of a single radius value.
Calibrate the profile the first time you run at a new track. To calibrate the Track Run profile:
Begin recording using the Track Run profile, no other input is required.
Complete a minimum of 4 laps around the track.
Avoid changing lanes during calibration laps.
Run slightly further on the final calibration lap to ensure complete calibration.
After the 4 laps you can continue running normally.
Set the lane number you are running in. Setting the lane number will ensure the correct amount of distance is added for each loop based on the distance for the lane you are running in. To set the lane number: NOTE: Steps may differ by device, for specific steps see your owner's manual and search "Lane Number".
Press START/STOP.
Select Track Run.
Press and hold the UP/MENU button.
NOTE: The Enduro 3, fēnix 8, fēnix E, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970 and vívoactive 6 will already be in the menu.
Select Track Run Settings.
Select Lane Number.
Select the lane you are running in.
Run in the same lane, when possible. The Track Run profile is able to account for occasional lane changes, but frequent lane changes can impact overall profile accuracy.
When performing a warm-up and cool-down before and after your track workout, Garmin recommends one of the following, based on your preference:
If your workout includes a warm-up and cool-down as you run to and from the track, we suggest you record your workout as three separate activities. Start an activity with the Run activity profile and warm up on your way to the track. Save that activity, then start a 2nd activity using the Track Run activity profile. Complete your track workout and save it. Then, to cool down, start a 3rd activity using the Run activity profile as you leave the track.
If your workout includes a warm-up and cool-down on the track, you can complete the entire activity using the Track Run activity profile.
NOTE: Your warm-up and cool-down laps will contribute to the total laps tracked during the activity. If you don’t want the warm-up and cool-down laps counted towards the total, we suggest you record your workout as three separate activities, using the Run activity profile for both the warm-up and cool-down laps.
Consistently sync your watch with the Garmin Connect™ app, Garmin Express, or using Wi-Fi. Syncing your watch updates the GPS satellite data on your watch ensuring that you will quickly acquire a satellite signal and get the most accurate GPS data possible.
An intentional calibration of the Track Run profile is recommended every time you run at a track you have not run on before. The Track Run profile is able to store track calibration for up to 10 different tracks. Calibrating at every new track ensures the most accurate Track Run data.
Track Run will default to auto lap at 1600 meters. You can change the auto lap distance for track run or disable auto lap and use the Lap button. To change the auto lap setting:
Press START/STOP.
Select Track Run.
Press and hold UP/MENU.
NOTE: The Enduro 3, fēnix 8, fēnix E, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970 and vívoactive 6 will already be in the menu.
Select Track Run Settings.
Select Auto Lap.
Select Auto Distance.
Set preferred distance.
The auto lap distance can be changed in increments of 100 meters, with a minimum of 200 meters and a maximum of 10,000 meters.
How Is Distance Displayed in the Track Run Profile?
Watches that support the Track Run profile will automatically display and upload distance in meters. This is the most common distance measurement used for track workouts. Watches that have a unit of measurement set to Statute can still view distance in miles by customizing the data fields for the track run profile or scroll to screen #2. See your owner's manual for information about customizing the data fields on your watch.
