Understanding the LED Colors on the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 3

The Garmin Dash Cam™ Mini 3 has status LED lights below the large save button and below 'Garmin' that displays different colors and patterns depending on the device status. Below is a breakdown of the different LED meanings. Some colors can have more than one meaning.


Green

  • The device is connected to a computer.
    • The computer will not provide enough power to pair the dash cam with the Garmin Drive app
  • The memory card is being formatted.

Dash Cam Mini 3 Green 


Green (Solid) changes to Red (Solid)

  • While the device is connected to a computer, a different memory card is swapped with the installed one.  Resolution: format the desired memory card in the Dash Cam Mini 3 prior to connecting it to a computer.
    • To format power the device on while disconnected from the computer. 
    • Hold the microphone (DC Mini Microphone) button along the bottom right for eight seconds.
    • The left LED light will turn green briefly and then red as recording begins.  The right LED light will turn red if the microphone is on or will be off if the microphone is off.

Slow Flashing Green

  • The device is booting.

Red

  • Video is recording.

Flashing Red

  • A video is starting to be saved.  The animation will play for 2 seconds.
  • An incident has been detected.

  • Saving video is in progress.  The animation will play for the duration of the save.

Red with Flashing Yellow

Fast Flashing Yellow / Yellow and Green / Green and Green

  • There is a problem with the memory card or a memory card is not installed.
  • The memory card needs to be formatted.
    • The dash cam requires a properly-formatted memory card before it can complete its start-up sequence and begin recording.
    • To format hold the microphone (DC Mini Microphone) button along the bottom right for eight seconds.
    • The left LED light will turn green briefly and then red as recording begins.  The right LED light will turn red if the microphone is on or will be off if the microphone is off.

  • Voice Command

  • The device is in Wi-Fi sharing mode.

  •  The device is in Bluetooth pairing mode (recording audio).

  • The camera is not connected to a power source.
