Tracking and Weather Charges When Using the Garmin Messenger App
When using the Garmin Messenger™ app with a compatible inReach® device, weather requests and tracking points typically incur charges based on your subscription plan. However, some weather request or tracking points may not be charged if they are sent over internet only. This can occur if all of the following are true:
Your phone has cellular coverage or Wi-Fi available at the time a weather request or tracking point is sent using the app.
Your inReach device is powered on and actively connected with the Garmin Messenger app via Bluetooth when the weather request response is received in the app over Wi-Fi or cellular data.
Weather request responses are received while cellular coverage or Wi-Fi is available are opened and read right away.
Satellite transmission is still the primary method of communication for inReach products. If any one of the above criteria has not been met, the weather request and tracking points will be sent over the Iridium satellite network to ensure the request is successful, or track points are delivered and will be charged based on the current plan selected.
