Garmin Panoptix™ Beam Icon and Beam Overlay

Note:
Calibration on each Panoptix™ transducer is required for the Beam Icon, Beam Overlay and Panoptix™ Area feature to appear
Heading Sensor is required for accuracy of the beam in relation to the boat icon.

Beam Icon:  The Panoptix™ sonar imagery Beam Icon allows users to see the direction the Panoptix™ sonar beam is pointing in correlation to their vessel.

Beam Overlay: The Panoptix™ Beam Overlay feature allows the users to visualize the location of the sonar beams for two or more Panoptix™ sonar transducers on the same Garmin Marine Network in relation to the LiveScope™ sonar Perspective, Forward, and Down sonar modes.

Panoptix™ Area: The Panoptix™ Area is a feature that allows users to view the sonar beam on a navigational or fishing chart view.

Compatible Panoptix™ Transducers:

  • LiveScope™ Plus LVS34
  • LiveScope™ XR LVS62
  • LiveScope™ LVS32
  • Panoptix™ PS22 (Not compatible with the Panoptix™ Area feature)
  • Panoptix LiveScope™ LVS12

Compatible Chartplotters:

  • GPSMAP® with Built-In Sonar at or above software version 2021.0920.1 (25.30)
  • ECHOMAP™ units compatible with Panoptix™ transducers at or above 2021.0920.1(18.00) / (18.20)

Beam Icon

The beam icon provides a 360° reference for the transducer beam in relation to the vessel and appears in the upper right hand corner of the sonar view after the compass calibration is completed.  While some chartplotters include built in GPS they do not include a built-in heading sensor and require this addition for improved accuracy of the beam in relation to the boat direction, see Garmin® Heading Sensors. The beam icon can be set to either Head Up, Beam Up, or North Up and can be viewed from Forward, Down, Perspective, LiveVü Forward and LiveVü Down mode with compatible transducers.

Enable / Disable the Beam Icon:

From the Panoptix™ sonar view select  3dots_horizontal / Options > Sonar Setup > Layouts > Beam Icon (Off, Head-Up, North Up, Beam Up)

Enable / Disable Secondary Beam Icon:

From the Panoptix™ sonar view select  3dots_horizontal / Options > Sonar Setup > Layouts > Beam Overlay (Show or Hide)

If more than one Panoptix™ sonar transducer is calibrated and ran on the same marine network system then the primary beam will be the brightest focus, appearing as yellow, and additional beams will be the lighter focus showing in softer shades of red.

Beam Overlay

The Beam Overlay feature requires more than one calibrated Panoptix™ sonar transducer on the same Garmin Marine Network.

When enabled, this feature shows the additional Panoptix™ sonar beams inside the of Beam Icon for their respective views.  These secondary beams are red and lighter in color than the yellow primary beam.

Additionally, when using Perspective View the Beam Overlay feature can provide a red outline of one secondary calibrated Panoptix™ sonar transducer beam.

  • The secondary red beam outlines can come from Forward View / LiveVü Forward (Red Pie) or Down View /  LiveVü Down (Red Rectangle)
  • The additional outline appears when the overlapping sonar beam comes into the Perspective sonar field of view
  • The length and width of the Red Pie or Red Rectangle showing in the perspective mode is based on the range set and the sonar return for the secondary sonar; such as, Forward View range is set to 30ft then the Red Pie would reflect up to a 30ft length on the Perspective view.

Selecting the Beam Overlay option to, "Hide" will result in the Red Pie or Red Rectangle beam outline being hidden on both the Perspective sonar page as well as on the Beam Icon.

Enable / Disable Secondary Beam Icon and Beam Overlay:

From the Panoptix™ Perspective sonar view select  3dots_horizontal / Options > Sonar Setup > Layouts > Beam Overlay (Show or Hide)

Panoptix Area

When the LiveScope™ transducer is calibrated the Panoptix Area feature can be enabled on a navigational or fishing chart screen allowing the user to view the sonar beam direction on the chart.  A heading sensor improves accuracy of the beam in relation to the boat icon.  The Panoptix Area feature appears as a magenta beam outline on the chart.  The size of the beam outline depends on the range set from the Panoptix™ sonar view.

Enable / Disable the Panoptix Area:

From the Panoptix sonar view select … / Options LayersMy Vessel Panoptix Area

Calibration is required for the Beam Icon, Beam Overlay or Panoptix™ Area features to be available.  A LiveScope™ transducer requires calibration each time moved into or out of Perspective mode.  When the transducer is calibrated in either Forward or Down position the calibration is kept when transitioning between Forward or Down mode.
