Garmin Express Fails While "Copying Files" to an Outdoor Handheld
During the "Copying Files" stage of a content installation, Garmin Express™ is writing the content to the internal storage of the device or to an SD card. Device connectivity issues or hardware problems can prevent Garmin Express from installing the content. Symptoms of these issues include:
- There was an error installing the update error message
- There was an error installing the content error message

IMPORTANT: Ensure that you are using the latest version of Garmin Express. To check for updates, see Updating the Garmin Express Application Software.
- Attach the handheld with a different USB cable.
- Attach the handheld to a different USB port on the computer.
- Make sure to select Yes on the handheld if prompted to go to Mass Storage.
- If the computer is a laptop, ensure the computer is connected to a power source.
- Make sure you disable sleep mode if your computer is idle during the duration of the installation.
- If using an SD card, try formatting the SD card or try using a different SD card if one is available.
- Restart the computer.
These steps should resolve the issues that prevent content from installing in Garmin Express.
