Area Calculation Information for Garmin Mode Outdoor Handheld

The area calculation feature is a type of specialized track that once a designated area has been navigated, the device will give a calculation total for that area. These instructions are only compatible with the following models:

  • GPSMAP® 60 Series and GPS 60 outdoor handhelds
  • GPSMAP® 76CSx, 76Cx, 76CS, and 76C outdoor handhelds
  • All eTrex® model outdoor handhelds with a color display
  • Rino® 530HCx, 520HCx, 530, and 520 outdoor radios

To perform an area calculation:

  1. Press Menu twice to access Main menu
  2. Select Tracks
  3. Press Menu
  4. Select Area Calculation
  5. Press Enter to start calculation function
  6. Begin navigating area to be calculated

Once the area has been defined:

  1. Press Enter to stop calculation
  2. Press down arrow on directional pad to highlight the Area box
  3. Select Enter to display drop down options
  4. Use directional pad to highlight measurement desired
  5. Select Enter
  6. Press Enter to save calculation

Once the area has been saved it can be viewed in MapSource® or BaseCamp™ software, or directly on the device from the track log page.
