Garmin Express Fails to Transfer Favorites Between Devices in Windows

The data may fail to display on the receiving device after using the Transfer Favorites feature in the Garmin Express™ software. Garmin Express may also display the message "There was an error backing up favorites.

If the following  steps do not work correctly, Garmin BaseCamp™ software can also be used to backup and transfer data between devices. See Manage Routes and Saved Places on an Automotive Device using BaseCamp on a Windows Computer and Transfer Favorites from a Device no Longer in Garmin Express.

NOTE: An additional procedure is required to import the backup or transfer to the dēzl™ LGV/OTR620, dēzl™ LGV/OTR720, dēzl™ LGV/OTR820, dēzl™ LGV/OTR1020, and dēzlCam™ LGV/OTR725 GPS Navigators. See Restored Backup or Transfer from Garmin Express does not Display on Device.


To Manually Move the Backup File to the Correct Location: 

1. Plug the device into the computer

2. Hold down the Windows key + E on the keyboard

 

Click This PC in the new window if using Windows 10 or newer

3. Double-click the drive labeled with the device name

NOTES:
  • Windows 10 or newer: The drive will be listed under Devices and Drives
  • Windows 7 and 8: The drive may be listed under Devices with Removable Storage or Portable Devices

4. Double-click Internal Storage or Internal Garmin Storage

Some devices skip this step 

5. Double-click the Garmin folder

6. Double-click the GPX folder

7. Right-click the GarminExpressImport.gpx file

8. Click Cut

9. Click the back arrow in the upper left corner to return to the Internal Storage

10. Double-click the GPX folder

Important: This should not be the GPX folder inside of the Garmin folder. A separate GPX folder should be found inside of Internal Storage.

11. Right-click in an empty area of the window and click Paste

12. Close the device window

 

13. Disconnect the device and power it on

The transferred data should now be located on the device.
