Pairing a Dog Tracking Handheld and Collar

The following instructions are for pairing dog tracking collars with the various dog tracking handhelds. 


Pairing Collars

Select a dog tracking handheld option below for collar pairing instructions. 

Alpha 200 and Alpha 300

  1. Touch Dog List
  2. Touch Add Dog
  3. Touch Pair Collar
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions
    • With the collar off (not required for T 5X, TT™ 15X, Alpha T20, and Alpha TT25 collars), press and hold the Power button on the collar until it emits two beeps (about 5 seconds), and then release. The status LED will flash green indicating the collar is ready to be paired.
  5. Use the keyboard to enter a dog name. 
  6. Select Finish

Alpha 100

Pairing a compatible collar to an Alpha 100 handheld
  1. Touch Dog List
  2. Touch Add Dog
  3. Touch Yes
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions:
    • With the collar off (not required for T 5X, TT™ 15X, Alpha T20, and Alpha TT25 collars), press and hold the Power button on the collar until it emits two beeps (about 5 seconds), and then release. The status LED will flash green indicating the collar is ready to be paired.
  5. Enter a name for the dog. Then touch the checkmark in the lower right to confirm.
    NOTE: Additional steps are needed when using a DC™ 50 collar with an Alpha 100 handheld, see - Tracking a DC 50 with an Alpha 100

The collar is now successfully paired.

Astro 430 or Astro 900

Pairing a compatible collar to an Astro 430 or Astro 900 handheld
  1. Open the Main Menu
  2. Highlight the Dog List then press ENTER
  3. Highlight Add Dog and press ENTER
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions: 
    • With the collar off (not required for T 5X, TT™ 15X, Alpha T20, and Alpha TT25 collars), press and hold the Power button on the collar until it emits two beeps (about 5 seconds), and then release. The status LED will flash green indicating the collar is ready to be paired.
  5. Use the arrow keys and ENTER to input a name for the dog.
  6. Highlight Done
  7. Press ENTER

Alpha 10

Start with the collar powered off.

  1. On the Alpha 10 handheld, press the Menu button to go to the Main Menu
  2. Select Add Device
  3. Select Dog
  4. Select Pair Collar
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions:
    • With the collar off (not required for T 5X, TT™ 15X, Alpha T20, and Alpha TT25 collars), press and hold the Power button on the collar until it emits two beeps (about 5 seconds), and then release. The status LED will flash green indicating the collar is ready to be paired.
  6. Use the keyboard to enter a dog name. 
  7. Select Done

Pro 550 Plus


NOTE: If both a Pro 550 Plus and a second, different model handheld (Alpha® models or Astro® 430), are being used at the same time, it is important to pair the collar to the Alpha or Astro handheld first. This ensures that the Alpha or Astro handheld can properly manage, and alert you to any communication ID conflicts that might prompt the need to change a collar communication ID number in the Alpha or Astro Dog List.
The Pro 550 Plus cannot change nor manage collar ID numbers, and cannot change or manage other communication settings.

Pairing a compatible collar to a Pro 550 Plus handheld

  1. Power on the handheld
  2. Select a color with the Toggle switch 
    NOTE: The dog collar will be assigned to this color
  3. Turn the intensity dial to N
  4. Select the green Tone key
  5. With Pair Collar highlighted, select the green Tone key again
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to select auto, tree, or point for the type of dog wearing the collar appears on the handheld device screen.
    NOTE: You can cancel pairing by pressing the green tone key.
  7. If the dog collar device is on, turn it off (not required for T 5X, TT™ 15X, Alpha T20, and Alpha TT25 collars)
  8. Hold the Power key on the dog collar until it emits two series of beeps (about 5 seconds), and then release the Power key. The status LED will flash green rapidly

The handheld vibrates and a checkmark appears on the screen when the devices have paired successfully.

Astro 220 or Astro 320

Pairing a compatible collar to an Astro 220 or Astro 320 handheld
  1. Ensure the dog collar is next to the handheld, turned on, and connected with satellites before you attempt to pair
  2. Press Dog
  3. Press Menu
  4. Highlight the Dog List and press ENT
  5. Highlight <Add New> and press ENT
  6. Select Yes
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions:
  8. Enter a name for the dog.
  9. Highlight Done
  10. Press ENTER

2 The DC 50 collar is only compatible with the Alpha 100 handheld after being paired with an Astro 430 handheld first

3 T 5 and TT 15 collars with software version 5.80 or later (remanufactured or exchanged/serviced collars after May 2022) are no longer compatible with the Astro 320 handheld

4 T 5 mini and TT 15 mini collars with software version 4.80 or later are no longer compatible with the Astro 320 handheld
