How Are Race Prediction Times Determined on My Watch?

Compatible Garmin watches feature predicted finish times for various race distances. The feature uses a variety of metrics to generate this estimate. This information can be viewed from the performance glance and for watches that are compatible, the primary race glace. Predictions listed in each glance can be different because of the metrics used to generate each estimate. See the Compatible Watch List below to see which watches support each prediction method.

What Are the Different Prediction Methods?

Generic Race Time Predictions (Performance Glance)

These predictions are estimates for 5k, 10k, half-marathon, and marathon distances. The watch uses VO2 max estimate and your training history to provide a target race time. 

Event Specific Race Predictions (Primary Race Glance)

A race event (between 3k up to marathon distance) from your Garmin Connect™ account calendar that is set as your primary race activity will generate a event-specific race time. This prediction includes your VO2 Max estimate, training history, and will also take into consideration environmental factors such as elevation changes, heat, wind, and altitude. It is advisable to have multiple longer activities in your history in the weeks leading up to the race event for more accurate predictions.

Viewing Race Prediction Times in Garmin Connect

Watches compatible with Event Specific Race Predictor can view the predicted race time in your Garmin Connect™ account.

NOTE: Your account requires a device compatible with Event Specific Race Prediction to view in Garmin Connect. Refer to the compatibility list above.

Garmin Connect App

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Select More (bottom right).

  3. Select Performance Stats.

  4. Select Race Predictor.

From this menu you can select Current, 4w (4 weeks), 6m (6 months), and 1y (1 year).

Garmin Connect Web

  1. From a web browser, sign into your Garmin Connect account.

  2. Select Reports from the navigation bar on the left.

  3. Select Running.

  4. Select Race Predictor.

From this menu you can select Most Recent, 4 Weeks, 6 Months, and 1 Year.
