What is the Kill Switch Feature of a Garmin Watch
Some Garmin watches offer a hot key or controls menu option named Kill Switch. The Kill Switch allows you to reset your watch quickly, dumping any stored data and reverting the watch to factory settings.1 You may find this option useful if you work in a position where data saved on your watch could be considered sensitive. Kill Switch should only be set to a hot key if your data could be compromised. We recommend setting the Kill Switch to a two button hot key combination so that it is not accidentally engaged. When the Kill Switch is engaged a countdown timer will start. At the end of the countdown the watch will power off and back on and then display an eraser icon for several minutes before returning to initial setup. You can cancel the reset during the countdown by pressing any button on the watch.

Using the Kill Switch From the Controls Menu
Some watches allow you to set up a shortcut in the Controls Menu to access the Kill Switch. See your owner's manual for instructions on how to customize the Controls Menu. When Kill Switch is selected, the watch will prompt you to hold the Light and Back/Lap buttons. After holding the buttons, the watch will show a countdown until the reset will take place. During the countdown, you can cancel the reset by pressing any button on the watch.
1 The Kill Switch will perform a full master reset of your watch. Any saved data, sensor or device pairings, custom settings, and device history will be deleted when using the Kill Switch.
