What Can I Use to Charge the Battery of My Garmin Device?

When you need to charge your battery, use an available USB port on a personal computer with the USB cable that came with your Garmin™ device. Note that these ports can vary in output which will affect the speed that the battery will charge.  Below are other battery related charging topics that you can select to learn more.

Can I Use the Wall Charger From My Phone?

A wall charger from a cell phone may be used to charge your Garmin device. Use a wall charger from a reputable brand name. Ensure the wall charger features the registered UL (Underwriters Laboratories) marks indicating that the item was manufactured in compliance with UL's safety requirements and LPS (Limited Power Source) marks. The manufacturer warranty does not cover damage as a result of using an adapter or cable not certified by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) and not labeled as Limited Power Source (LPS).

What Can I Use to Charge My Device When I Travel Abroad?

When traveling out of your native country, we suggest you charge your device using the USB port from a computer since AC outlets can vary. If you are traveling to Europe, Garmin offers  a wall adapter to plug into an AC outlet: AC Adapter Cable Europe

NOTE: The European adapter is only compatible with a USB-A charging cable. If you have a USB-C charging cable you will need to look for a compatible adapter or purchase a USB-A charging cable.

Can I Use an External Power Bank to Charge My Device?

The Garmin Charge™ Power Pack can be used to charge many of your Garmin devices. It plugs in directly to many Edge® cycling computers, while watches and some other Edge cycling computers use their own cables to connect and charge. You can also use any UL certified power bank to charge your device. If your smartphone supports it, you can also use reverse charging from it to charge your Garmin device.

Is There a Recommended Power Output Level That I Should Use?

The Garmin recommended output from one of the suggested power sources above is 5W (5V / 1A). Anything used that exceeds this recommendation (E.g. A fast/rapid chargers) will be regulated by the Garmin cable and device. Anything lower may result in a slower charging experience.

I Am Worried About Overcharging My Device

The charging logic in your Garmin device prevents it from being 'overcharged'. The charger is disabled once the battery is at full capacity.

Should I Fully Discharge a Garmin Device Before Charging It Up Again?

The lithium-ion chemistry used in the batteries of Garmin's fitness and outdoor watches, as well as cycling products, does not need to be discharged before charging again. There is no effect on the performance of the battery if it is only partially discharged before charging it again.
