(2007) Service Advisory 0745 Rev A: GNS 430W/GNS 530W Series and G1000 WAAS GPS CDI Scaling

PURPOSE

When flying a WAAS approach with the Course Deviation Indicator (CDI) scale manually set to 0.3 NM, the Vertical Deviation Indicator (VDI) may be unavailable.

DESCRIPTION

This Service Advisory provides instructions to ensure the VDI is available when appropriate during a WAAS approach.

INSTRUCTIONS

Refer to your Garmin pilot’s guide or cockpit reference guide for CDI scale adjustment instructions.

  • Verify the CDI scale is set to “Auto” prior to take off. 
  • Do not set the CDI scale to 0.3 NM prior to loading a WAAS approach. 
  • Unless flight operations require adjusting the CDI scale, operate the CDI in “AUTO” mode only.

Information contained in this advisory does not affect the airworthiness or operational characteristics of the G1000 or 430W/530W.

AFMS AND PILOT’S GUIDE CONSIDERATIONS

There are no AFMS or Pilot’s Guide changes required.

PRODUCT AFFECTED

This advisory is applicable to the following units:

  • All G1000 WAAS systems with GDU software versions 7.10 through 8.20 
  • All GNS 430W/530W series units with main software version 3.0 and earlier 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This issue will be corrected in a future software release. G1000 WAAS-equipped aircraft owners should contact the aircraft manufacturer or G1000 system installer for information regarding future software updates. GNS 430W/530W series operators may contact their Garmin installer regarding future software updates.

Garmin Dealers and Service Centers should provide this information to their GNS 430W/530W and G1000 WAAS customers.
