"USB Device Not Recognized" Error when Connecting a Garmin USB Device to a Computer

Description


The error USB Device Not Recognized indicates that there is a communication issue between Windows and the Garmin device. 

Resolution


To Troubleshoot and Resolve This Issue:

  • Plug the USB cable directly into the device (see video below)

    • Plugging the USB cable into the mount on the device will not allow the computer to recognize the device

  • Charge the battery on the device

  • Try connecting the device to a different USB port (see video below)

    • Avoid connecting through a USB hub, USB extension cable, keyboard, or monitor
    • Use a USB port on the back of the computer instead of the ports on the front or side if using a desktop computer
    • Try a port on the opposite side of the computer if available if using a laptop.
  • Try using a different USB cable (see video below)
  • Try another computer if available

    • Work computers may not allow the computer to recognize the device

  • Reboot the computer

The USB Device Not Recognized error should no longer display.
