GPSMAP® Touchscreen Capabilities through USB

When setting up connections for sending and receiving touch all cable connections should be established in a dry environment.  To see the external display on the a GPSMAP® chartplotter/ MFD/ Black Box an HDMI connection is required.  Likewise, for viewing GPSMAP® chartplotter/ MFD/ Black Box content on an external display a HDMI connection is required.

Note:
• To avoid potential communication errors, you should use the correct USB cable for your GPSMAP® chartplotter/MFD/Black Box.  You should not use an adapter to change the USB connector type on an older cable.
•  To prevent corrosion due to moisture, you must use Garmin® accessory cables when establishing connections. Using different cables voids warranty.

When referring to the charts keep in mind the following definitions regarding connections to and from the GPSMAP® chartplotter/MFD/Black Box to an external device.

Ports:

USB Host:  The port which will be receiving input.

USB OTG:  Can be used as as Host Port (receiving touch input) or Client Port (sending touch input) depending on the accessory cable utilized on the port.

USB DRD:  The next generation of OTG which allows the GPSMAP® chartplotter/MFD/Black Box to act as either a Host or Client for inputting or outputting touch to another device.  Utilizes USB-C.

¹If the media player requires being powered by the GPSMAP® chartplotter, MFD or Black Box, such as a Chromecast™, then a Garmin GPSMAP USB OTG adapter cable is needed in addition to the video input cable. The USB port can supply up to 2.5 W to power a media player stick.

² If the media player stick requires being powered by the GPSMAP® chartplotter, MFD or Black Box, then a Garmin adapter cable (such as a USB C to Micro USB Adapter Cable, 010-12390-13) is needed in addition to the video input cable.  The USB DRD port on a GPSMAP® 9000 series MFD or Black Box can supply up to 2.5 W to power a media player stick. The USB port on a GPSMAP® 9000 series MFD or Black Box can supply up to 4.5 W to power a media player stick.

For GPSMAP® chartplotters, MFDs or Black Boxes that do not support protected HDMI® video sources (HDCP) some video sources may allow HDCP to be turned off at the source. Check the video source's manual to verify.

The Garmin HDMI® accessory cable is 4.5 m (15 ft) long. If you need a longer cable, you should use an active HDMI cable only. You will need an HDMI coupler to connect the two HDMI cables.
