Tracking in the Alpha App

In the Garmin Alpha® app you can live track from the map to see track details or use the Pro View for a more simple tracking view, see - Tracking with Pro View. When the Alpha app is paired with a compatible dog tracking device the track is displayed on the map, as long as there is an activity or track being recorded on the Garmin device. 

Requirements for Tracking to Function

• Location Services need to be enabled on the mobile device.
• Garmin device must be paired and remain connected to the mobile device.
  
• Garmin device must have started an activity, navigation, or is actively recording a track.
• Both the Alpha Mobile app and the dog tracking device needs to have acquired a GPS position.
• The mobile device on which the Alpha Mobile app is installed meets the minimum system requirements.
• The dog tracking device is on the latest software version available.
• Collars to be viewed are on, active, have a GPS position, and be visible on the associated dog tracking handheld.

Line Display Settings

Line display settings is information that will show for the tracked device. To edit select map settings .

• 1. Select Line Display Settings. 
     • Show Names - Shows on the map the name of the device. 
     • Show Distance - Shows on map the distance the device is from you. 
     • Show Status - Shows the status of the device being tracked. 
       

Customizing Track length

In the Alpha app you can set the track lengths to only be viewable for specific time lengths.

1. Select the Map .
2.  Select the Map Settings . 
3. Select Track Length.
4. The options of track length are,
   • None: No tracks will show on map.

     ---

   • 1 minute of tracks show.
   • 10 minutes of tracks show.
   • 30 minutes of tracks show.
   • 1 hour of tracks show.
   • 6 hours of tracks show.
   • 12 hours of tracks show.
   • All shows a history of 48 hours of tracks.

Hide Older Tracks

You can turn on this setting to clear any track data prior to the current time when set.

1. Select the Map .
2.  Select the Map Settings .
3. Select Track Length.
4. Select Hide Older Tracks to toggle on. 
5. Select Set to Now.

This will clear all track data created prior to the current time of day.

Clear All Tracks

From the map you can quickly clear all current tracks if the map gets cluttered with tracks making it hard to track. 

1. Select the Map .
2. Select the Trash Can .
3. A message appears Clear All Tracks? select Yes to clear.

Changing Units of Measurement

You can change the units that distance or coordinates are measured by. 

1. Select the Map .
2. Select the Map Settings .
3. Select Units.
