Understanding Charges for Tracking on inReach Safety, Essential and Enabled Plans
inReach® satellite communicators include a tracking feature that can share your location via satellite to your LiveTrack™ page or MapShare™ page at specified intervals so others can follow along with your progress.
With the inReach Consumer Safety1 Essential, and Enabled plans, there is an additional cost2 per send/track point when tracking is enabled on the inReach device. Track points are sent every 10 minutes by default. As an example, if your Send Interval is set to 10 minutes and you had tracking on for 1 hour, you could be charged for 7 track points (this includes a starting track point). If tracking is being used daily, these charges can add up quickly.
How Can I Control the Number of Send/Track Points Being Used?
Tracking settings can be adjusted to change how often track points are being sent.
Most inReach devices3 can also be set to only record the track locally on the device without ever sending points via satellite to your LiveTrack or MapShare page, therefore avoiding any tracking charges. This is a good option if you wish to record your trips for your own review, but do not need to share your trip progress with others in real time.
Follow the steps for your device below to adjust the tracking settings.
